Join Gail Beaton, author and Chautauqua speaker, for a look at the rise of women’s clubs beginning in 1868. These early literary clubs soon expanded into philanthropic and political work. Gail will highlight the impact of suffrage leader Sarah Platt Decker, a two‑term president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, whose leadership helped Colorado women secure the vote in 1893 and advance major progressive reforms. At the time of her death, Sarah was considered a potential U.S. Senator from Colorado.
